Legal scope and framework
Caritas International is dedicated to respecting existing privacy legislation in Belgium: the processing of personal data relating to this site is subject to the privacy law of 8 December 1992, as well as the General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (“RGPD” or better known by its English name “GDPR”) of 27 April 2016, which came into effect on 24 May 2016.

Personal Identifying information collected
When you make a donation on our secure online payment platform, we ask you several questions pertaining to your personal information. The term “personal data” encompasses all information concerning an identified or identifiable private individual. An individual is identifiable when they can be directly or indirectly identified, notably by an ID number or several factors unique to their physical, physiological, psychological, economic, cultural, or social identity.
Caritas International asbl collects your personal information for the following reasons:
- Management of the donation: registration with the administration for the issuance of tax certificates, which constitutes a legal obligation.
- Communication: in the form of welcome and thank you letters, invitations to events, and calls for donations, as is deemed relevant.
- Profiling: in order to tailor to your interests as closely as possible, as is deemed relevant.
- Identifying data: your last name, first name, postal and e-mail address, telephone number, and your title
- Personal characteristics: your sex, marital status, profession
- Bank data: your bank account number as well as your credit card number, expiration date, and security code
- Your IP address
- Your interests: when you choose a project to support
This information is collected on the online secure payment platforms managed by iRaiser. iRaiser is a publisher of SaaS-distributed software entirely dedicated to non-profit organizations and is the European leader in online fundraising.
If in the future you would not like to receive postal mail or emails from our organization, please contact us.
Proper data management and storage
Your personal data are stored in our database. Unless prompted by you, these data will be stored for 10 years after your most recent donation. These data are stored on our server located at our registered office at Rue de la Charité 43, 1210 Brussels.
Caritas International is dedicated to not sharing this information with other organizations for financial or other purposes, or with commercial databases.
Caritas International may share this data with third parties for non-financial purposes as part of relevant professional assistance. For example, when mailing or emailing publications deemed relevant. In such cases, data management is determined by an agreement to comply with privacy agreements and necessary security. In addition, we do not provide personal data to parties outside of the EU.
These personal data are only shared with others when the law authorizes or demands it.
Data usage by Caritas International
These data are only collected as part of specific activities of Caritas International. We do not handle the personal data of minors (those less than 16 years old) without written consent from a parent or legal representative.
Mailings by post and e-mailings
For two years following the year of your last donation, you will receive our quarterly magazine and one or two targeted calls, by mail and/or e-mail. You may still receive one or two calls per year for the next three years. Depending on your personal Facebook and Instagram account settings, you will also see our sponsored posts on Facebook and Instagram about the topics covered in this magazine. The goal is to keep you informed about the results of our projects. At any time, you can unsubscribe from these communications by sending us an email to infofr@caritasint.be or by unsubscribing via the footer at the bottom of the email.
Projects
We also manage projects commissioned by private and non-profit partners who do not issue tax certificates. We provide these partners with donors’ data (name, address, and donation amount) for information and communication purposes that are deemed relevant. These partners are required to take sufficient contractual measures to protect your privacy.

Once data is received by Caritas International, it does its utmost to ensure the security of its systems. We have already put in place the necessary security measures to protect against the loss, misuse, or alteration of the information received on our site. Our security measures are detailed here:
