In Burundi, poverty, climate change and soaring prices are taking a heavy toll on rural areas. Many young people and their families struggle to make ends meet, even though they are determined to move forward and build a better future. Without support, many have no choice but to leave their region, at the risk of falling into even greater precariousness.

On the ground, Caritas International works alongside rural communities to sustainably strengthen their livelihoods. Together with young people and their families, it develops practical solutions to enable them to remain in their region and build a more stable future there.

Our teams focus on four priorities:

  • Training young people in sustainable agriculture and agroecology
  • Distributing seeds and seedlings to develop food crops
  • Supporting income-generating activities, such as beekeeping
  • Protecting land from erosion through tree planting

WHY DONATE?

Millions across the world are victims of humanitarian crises. When disaster strikes, it is crucial that we act as quickly as possible to protect victims and shelter them from hunger, thirst, and illness. It is only thanks to your help that our rapid response is possible in times of need.

As soon as the annual total of your donation reaches 40 euros (as long as the total amount of your donations does not exceed 10% of your net taxable income), you receive a tax certificate. The latter automatically entitles you to a tax reduction of up to 45% of your total donations to Caritas. A donation of 100 euros costs you in reality only 55 euros.
